Art + Italian Language studies: semester combined programme starting in September 2012

This programme will on September 10th January 2012 at AdG and it will combine Italian Language studies, Fine Arts studies, Art History:

ITALIAN LANGUAGE CLASSES

From beginner to advanced, according to the European Language Portfolio.

24 weeks, 2 hours a day, in the morning, from 9.30am to 11.30am, Monday – Friday

Total number of hours: 240
Our foreign language training is offered at all levels. We will assign your course after a brief placement test that you will take upon arrival. Please note that 7 language levels ranging from beginner to advanced are available and regular progress tests are held at the end of each level. All participants attend a minimum of 80 class hours per 4-week period through a combination of small group, conversation and grammar classes.

The programme

After attending the Italian Language course the student will acquire the following language abilities:
· Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning;
· Express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions;
· Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
· Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

DRAWING AND PAINTING CLASSES

Classical Drawing techniques, Life drawing and Portrait, Water colour, Acrylic and Oil Techniques.

24 weeks, 3 hours and a half a day, in the afternoon, from 2pm to 5.30pm, Monday – Thursday

Total number of hours: 336 hours
Our Art programme is offered according to your artistic skills and school experience. Therefore, if you are not an Art novice, on your first day of class please bring with you some pictures of your previous works (even on a CD). Our Art teacher will evaluate them and will discuss with you about your goals and main interests in Art techniques. Also please note that all participants will attend a minimum of 56 class hours per 4-week period through a combination of mainly drawing and painting classes.

The programme and the techniques

The first 12 weeks introduce basic drawing (proportions, shading and perspective) and various painting techniques (especially acrylics and watercolour) while the following 12 weeks aim at developing and improving students artistic skills. At the end of these six months students will have acquired the basic knowledge required towards the making of their personal portfolios and will concentrate on the study of one specific technique, such as:
Portrait: Through making rapid strokes in pencil (or charcoal) students will learn how to portray the essential features of a human face, and through more elaborate drawings they will focus on details, on the effect of light and shade (“the chiaroscuro”), as well as on the psychological value of facial expression.
Oil paint gives a “richness” and depth of colour that stresses on the shading and the highlighting. At the end of the semester Students will have learnt to emphasise or fade the brightness of the colours of different objects and the effects of light on metal, glass and bodies.
Egg tempera paint is made from finely ground dry pigments, egg yolk and water. Students will learn to master this fast drying medium that is fluid by nature and must be applied thinly in semi-opaque and transparent layers. They will realize how different this linear style is from the thick, brushy and painterly technique of oil painting. They will also appreciate the subtle colour variations so characteristic of egg tempera painting (unlike the deep saturated colours typical in oil paints).
Fresco is one of the oldest painting techniques. It was invented by the Egyptians who later taught it to the Greeks. But it was only in the 14th century, thanks to the Italian painter Giotto, that the fresco technique gained more and more importance among the Fine Arts.
The most peculiar quality of fresco painting lies undoubtedly in its making: the pigment – a natural material – is laid on a fresh plaster several times in a short lapse of time, and through a cohesion process it fixes itself in the plaster, creating warm and subtle tones. The artist can make no mistakes, as correcting them would imply destroying the whole work. That is why the fresco technique is particularly difficult to learn and master.

SEMINARS ON ART HISTORY

“From Giotto to Mannerism” and “The Renaissance in Florence and Italy”.
2 weeks,
Total number of hours: 16
The programme: This course introduces and explores the main historical-artistic trends from XIV to XVI centuries. Lessons are complemented by guided tours to museums and monuments in Florence. The time-table includes two weekly one-hour lessons and two weekly two-hour guided tours. At the end of the four weeks students will have visited the Uffizi, the Bargello National Museum, the National Academy Gallery, the Medici Chapels, the San Marco Museum, the Pitti Palace.

Séminaires de beaux-arts intensifs en été en Italie

Pendant la belle saison notre école organise plusieurs séminaires d’art sur une base hebdomadaire. Ces cours-ci ont lieu du lundi au vendredi tant le matin que l’après-midi, soit dans notre atelier qu’en plein air, dans le rues et les places de Florence, ou même dans la campagne toscane. Chaque programme, organisé par nos enseignants experts, comprend 30-32 heures de cours en petits groups.

Voici une liste des techniques qui sont abordées dans nos séminaires:

dessin en plein air et paysage;
portrait et autoportrait;
dessin du nu;
dessin au fusain et à la sanguine;
aquarelle;
fresque;
trompe l’œil;
xylographie.

Ces séminaires-ci s’adressent particulièrement aux artistes qui savent déjà maîtriser les techniques du dessin et de la peinture, mais qui désirent améliorer leur style personnel à eux ainsi que développer leur créativité. Il n’en reste pas moins qu’aussi ces élèves qui ont moins d’expérience dans le domaine de beaux-arts pourront profiter de ces cours-ci pour apprendre les techniques de base des matières et des sujets qu’ils aborderont en classe.
Toute classe est composée en moyenne par 6-7 élèves (maximum 10), c’est pourquoi chaque élève a la possibilité d’être suivi singulièrement par nos enseignants.

Oggi, domenica 13 maggio, è la festa della mamma e noi vogliamo farle tanti auguri dedicandole questa vecchia canzone popolare e divertente, Mamma tutto, eseguita da Iva Zanicchi con l’accompagnamento del Piccolo coro dell’Antoniano. Non è la festa dello studente, però: a voi toccherà pertanto di fare gli esercizi che troverete di seguito al testo.

Cominciate ascoltando la canzone e inserendo nel testo le parole mancanti:

Canticchiava e passioncella sono forme alterate del verbo cantare e del sostantivo passione: entrambe servono per indicare la leggerezza con cui si descrivono queste due parole, si canticchia senza troppo concentrarsi sulla musica o sul testo e si definisce qui passioncella il primo innamoramento, la prima cotta adolescenziale. Alterare dunque una parola, che sia un verbo o un sostantivo, un aggettivo o un avverbio, ci permette di arricchire di sfumature il nostro vocabolario.

Adesso, facendo riferimento a questo post :

Esercizio 1. Alterate secondo il vostro giudizio le seguenti parole:
mano, piede, casa, porta, vaso, quadro, ragazzo, zia, scatola, bacio.

Esercizio 2. Fate il diminutivo dei seguenti nomi di animali e rendeteli di piccole dimensioni:
cane, gatto, passerotto, lucertola, pollo, piccione.

Esercizio 3. Alcune parole sembrano essere forme alterate di altre. Nel seguente esercizio indicate quali NON sono forme alterate tra bottone, parolina, ammucchiare, leggiucchiare, postino, gattuccio, coniglietto, pecorino, stiracchiare, stornello, pulcino, calzone, cartina, cartone, macchinare, tacchino.

Esercizio 4. Il cucciolo della volpe è il volpino o il volpacchiotto? Il cucciolo del lupo è il lupacchiotto o il lupino? Un cane di grossa dimensione è un canone o un cagnolone? La scarpa da montagna è la scarpona o lo scarpone? Un gallo giovane è un galletto o un gallino? Un tipo che non vuole capire è uno zucchino o uno zuccone?

Sketchbook in Florence and Landscape Art Workshops 2012

This summer Accademia del Giglio will organize 3 Sketchbook and landscape workshops in Florence and in its surroundings on the following dates:

June 25th – 29th 2012

August 13th – 17th 2012

The Sketchbook and Landscape Workshop has been conceived for those students who wish to discover (or rediscover) in a week the poetry and the magic of Florence, with its renaissance buildings and its skyline dominated by the enthralling cathedral dome, as well as the relaxing atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside, with its vineyards and olive groves. The aim of the course is to help the student to create a sketchbook with unforgettable memories of the historic city and its pastoral surroundings.

The course can be recommended both to Art novices and to experienced artists and professionals who intend to familiarize with the freehand drawing as well as with the perspective sketch. During outdoor sessions students will learn how to draw and paint landscapes and architectural elements, such as squares, medieval towers, churches and narrow streets. The following techniques can be chosen: pencil, water colour, oil painting and pastel. Practice will concentrate mainly on the use of colour and on the perspective method.

The workshop has a duration of 5 days, Monday to Friday, for a total amount of 32 hours of tuition, and it includes a one-day excursion by private bus in the countryside of the Chianti hills.

Pittura e fotografia: “Nei panni dell’altro – In Someone Else’s Shoes”, la mostra di Lauraballa e Darragh Hehir

Si inaugura oggi pomeriggio, venerdì 4 maggio 2012, alle 18:30, presso la Galleria Abracadabra in via dell’Amorino 9r a Firenze, la mostra di Lauraballa e Darragh Hehir, Nei panni dell ‘altro – In Someone Else’s Shoes.

Maschere che ci aiutano a rapportarci con gli altri; maschere che parlano per noi e nascondono i nostri veri pensieri. Ma cosa succederebbe se ce le scambiassimo e provassimo a calarci in quelle dell’altro?

Masks that help us to communicate with others; masks that speak for us and hide our true thoughts. But what would happen if we were to swap masks and look at the world from someone else’s point of view?

Lauraballa è pittrice, scultrice ed illustratrice: nasce in Svizzera, ma si stabilisce a Prato in giovane età, dove risiede ed apre la sua bottega d’artista in Via Mazzini, 34.

Darragh Hehir è un fotografo professionista, web designer e developer nato a Dublino e trasferitosi a Prato nel 2002 dove lavora come freelance.

La mostra

Quattro maschere su un supporto ligneo, che sintetizzano i caratteri peculiari di quattro soggetti e l’interazione di un gruppo di volontari con esse, basata su una scelta soggettiva, istintiva. Quest’idea sta alla base del progetto dell’artista Lauraballa, sviluppato in collaborazione col fotografo Darragh Hehir, che ne ha prodotto un reportage fotografico.

Si aggiunge la location della mostra, giunta in maniera casuale, ma quanto mai appropriata, ovvero la galleria “Abracadabra” del maestro della pittrice toscana: Agostino Dessì, conosciuto in tutto il mondo per le sue creazioni in
papier mache. Le espressioni messe a fuoco dagli scatti sono tante quante le sensazioni percepite nel mettersi nei panni altrui: curiosità, conforto, inquietudine, traspaiono dalle istantanee e spesso stridono con le opere di Laura.

Un work in progress, a cui si affiancheranno ad opere pittoriche inedite di Lauraballa, che ha le caratteristiche per ampliarsi e lasciare un segno decisivo nel panorama artistico toscano e non.

Intensive Fresco Seminars will take place at Accademia del Giglio in Florence next summer and will have a duration of 5 days, from Monday to Friday, for a total amount of 30 hours of tuition. Workshops will be held on the following dates:

June 4th – 8th 2012
July 30th – August 3rd 2012

The teacher will guide the students through the different phases of this original and ancient technique. At the end of this short but very intensive workshop, students will have acquired the necessary skills for making a fresco on their own.

During the workshop the students will follow the essential steps to making a fresco: for example they will learn how to prepare the “arriccio” (the preliminary layer of plaster spread on the tile), the cardboard for the sinopia and the use of the pigments.

Trompe-l’oeil seminar in Florence next Summer

Next Summer Accademia del Giglio will organize Trompe-l’oeil seminars in Florence on the following dates:

June 11th – 15th 2012
August 6th – 10th 2012
September 24th – 28th 2012

This conspicuous technique originates in the 15th century from the encounter of the Italian perspective with the Flemish realistic paintings. As the meaning of the French expression clearly tells (“trompe-l’oeil”), its explicit aim is to “deceive the eye” of the observer. The first unreal objects were actually painted on a wall and represented every-day-life things on a fictitious table or shelf. The trompe-l’oeil technique became more refined and elaborate later in the Baroque period, during which hunting trophies, perching birds, precious cabinets, game tables and several other sophisticated artistic objects were often painted for aristocratic families and rich merchants.

During this course students will be introduced to the study and analysis of the most celebrated artworks, by showing them the mastery and expertise in this technique of some famous painters. Afterwards each student will put into practice what he/she has learnt by creating his/her own trompe l’oeil work. Consequently, the students’ task will be challenging: they will have to take into account the natural size of the objects, make use of the perspective theories, consider the position of the observer towards the fictitious space, as well as create a tridimensional effect through the use of lights and shades.

Spoken languages: Italian and English.
Duration: 5 days
Total amount of hours: 30
Schedule: morning and afternoon, Monday through Friday.
Maximum number of students per class: 8.

g) Gli esodati sono quei lavoratori che si sono dimessi per andare in pensione, ma che hanno perso la pensione a causa della nuova riforma del sistema previdenziale.

h) Dopo 38 anni anni la corte d’assise ha assolto tutti gli imputati per la strage di Piazza della Loggia a Brescia, in cui morirono molte persone.

Watercolour workshops next summer in Florence

Next summer Accademia del Giglio will organize Watercolor Workshops in Florence on the following dates:

May 28th – June 1st 2012
July 23rd – 27th 2012
September 10th – 14th 2012

This course is an in-depth approach to the watercolor technique, a full immersion in the soft and delicate colors of the Florentine buildings, a study of light tones along the river Arno and its historical bridges.

This workshop is meant not only for beginner students who already have some drawing skills and wish to become acquainted with the watercolor technique, but also for those experienced students who are determined to improve and enrich their portfolio. That is why most of the time during classes our teacher will follow every student individually.

Classes will be held both at our academy and outside and they will aim at teaching the secrets and tricks of the watercolor painting, besides enhancing the student’s creativeness and skills through several tests on different kinds of papers (i.e.: dry paper, wet paper and sponged paper).

This 5-day workshop will start on Monday morning and will end on Friday afternoon, for a total amount of 32 hours of tuition, which will include a one-day excursion (approximately 8 hours of en plein air lessons) in the Tuscan countryside. At the end of the course participants will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

Verrazzano Day a Greve

Se non sapete cosa fare questo weekend, vi consigliamo di visitare Greve in Chianti, dove si terrà la manifestazione dedicata al famoso esploratore e navigatore toscano Giovanni da Verrazzano, illustre cittadino di questo grazioso paesino toscano.

L’inaugurazione è programmata per sabato 14 aprile alle ore 17,30 al Castello di Verrazzano con il convegno “VERRAZZANO, FIRENZE, VESPUCCI e i mercanti viaggiatori fiorentini nell’età delle scoperte geografiche“. L’ingresso è libero con cena conviviale a partire dalle ore 20. Per partecipare è obbligatoria la prenotazione allo 0557854243 o via email: fondazione@verrazzano.org

Domenica 15 aprile a partire dalle 10:00 e fino alle 19:00 presso la Pineta Etrusco si esibiranno lavori di artisti locali e statunitensi con il tema ARTE e NATURA, inoltre alle ore 16 la Compagnia Laboratorio Amaitea con la regia di Dimitri Frosali presenterà lo spettacolo teatrale itinerante “Navigatori di Terraferma”

Per chiudere il programma Martedí 17 aprile alle ore 15,30 in Piazza Matteotti si renderà omaggio al monumento di Giovanni da Verrazzano contando sulla presenza del gruppo storico “Giostra della Stella“, alle ore 16,30 si svolgerà l’ inaugurazione del “Giardino dei Navigatori” alla presenza del Console USA di Firenze e una delegazione dello stato del Delaware (meglio conosciuto come “The first State” o Il primo Stato, poichè fu la prima delle 13 colonie a ratificare la Costituzione degli Stati Uniti, il 7 dicembre 1787) e per finire alle ore 18,30 visita al Castello di Verrazzano e cena conviviale, previa prenotazione.
