During the workshop the students will follow the essential steps to making a fresco: for example they will learn how to prepare the arriccio (the preliminary layer of plaster spread on the tile), the cardboard for the sinopia and the use of the pigments.

The most peculiar quality of the fresco painting lies undoubtedly in its making: the pigment - a natural material – is laid on a fresh plastesetr several times in a short lapse of time, and through a cohesion process it fixes itself in the plaster, creating warm and subtle tones.

The teacher will guide the students through the different phases of this original and ancient technique. At the end of this short but very intensive workshop, students will have acquired the necessary skills for making a fresco on their own.

The Sketchbook and Landscape Workshop has been conceived for those students who wish to discover (or rediscover) in a week the poetry and the magic of Florence, with its renaissance buildings and its skyline dominated by the enthralling cathedral dome, as well as the relaxing atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside, with its vineyards and olive groves. The aim of the course is to help the student to create a sketchbook with unforgettable memories of the historic city and its pastoral surroundings.

The course can be recommended both to Art novices and to experienced artists and professionals who intend to familiarize with the freehand drawing as well as with the perspective sketch. During outdoor sessions students will learn how to draw and paint landscapes and architectural elements, such as squares, medieval towers, churches and narrow streets. The following techniques can be chosen: pencil, water colour, oil painting and pastel. Practice will concentrate mainly on the use of colour and on the perspective method.

The workshop has a duration of 5 days, Monday to Friday, for a total amount of 32 hours of tuition, and it includes a one-day excursion by private bus in the countryside of the Chianti hills.

Tempera painting

The entire course has an overall duration of 2 academic years (72 weeks), during which students will approach, learn and  practice the different techniques for drawing, painting, art graphics, illustration and comics. Every year students will thoroughly attend 504 hours of tuition.

AdG school created a two-year study programme whose aim is to provide the students the essential tools and the necessary knowledge to advance in their art studies. Classical art techniques such as drawing and painting will be taught along with more modern visual art disciplines, such as graphics, comics and illustration. The use of different materials as well as the in-depth study of various and dissimilar subjects are meant to motivate the students and encourage them to cope with this exhaustive art syllabus.

Every year students will thoroughly attend 504 hours of tuition. Classes will be held from 2pm to 5.30pm, from Monday to Thursday. Each week students will attend 14 hours of tuition (inclusive of 2 hours of life drawing with living models). Every morning from 9.30am and on Friday afternoon (until 4pm) students will be welcome to work and train their art skills in the studio, as long as the school does not need the studio for a special course/lecture.

Here is the syllabus listing the visual art disciplines that students will study throughout their 2-year course:

• analysis of the shapes and descriptive geometry
• visual education;
• history of Italian art;
• drawing techniques;
• life drawing techniques;
• volumes and perspective;
• art graphics;
• painting;
• set design;
• decoration;
• illustration;
• comics;
• elements and techniques of sculpture

All of our teachers are highly qualified and experts in the different subjects and techniques. They have a degree from an approved Italian university or academy, are native Italian speakers who can also speak English, and have at least 4 years teaching experience. Moreover, They are prepared to tutor the students and guide them during the two years of study through the comprehensive visual art programme, without disregarding the needs, the artistic skills and the the creativity of each single student.

At the end of the academic programme:

• an art exhibition will be organized in the school premises for all the students who have attended the entire two-year art course.
• a certificate of attendance will be issued to those students who have attended at least 80% of the overall lessons.

There are no requisites for admission, but since each seminar is taught in either Italian or English, a working knowledge of either language is required.

Crash courses in Italian are normally held at weekends, but can also be taken on weekdays or on different dates, for example on a series of Saturdays or Sundays, either once per week or once per fortnight.

The number of hours can be modified since the crash course is designed to be built around your schedule.

You can attend a 1-day course (6 or 8 hours), a 2-day course (12 or 16 hours) or a 3-day course (18 or 24 hours).

It is also possible to spend part of your lessons visiting some of the most important museums of Florence such as the Uffizi Gallery, the Bargello National Museum or the National Academy Gallery. Each Crash Course is held by 2 experienced and qualified teachers.

Here is a SAMPLE SCHEDULE FOR A 3-DAY CRASH COURSE (18 hours):

• Morning 9:30 am – 11 am Assessment written and oral test (about 20 minutes, only on the first day). Lesson with the teacher (grammar).
• 11am Coffee break and a snack (croissant or sandwich).
• 11.15 am – 12:30 pm Lesson with the teacher (vocabulary and conversation).
• 12:30 pm Lunch with the teacher in a cafeteria: a sandwich or a first dish or a pizza, a drink, fruit or pastry.
• Afternoon 2 pm – 3:30 pm Lesson with the teacher (Italian on your demand).
• 3:30 pm Coffee or tea break.
• 3:45 pm – 5:00 pm Lesson with the teacher (Italian on your demand).

Moreover, lessons can also be carried on after your stay in Florence has finished, since you will be given the opportunity to keep in touch with your teachers through skype or MSN messenger.

L’Accademia del Giglio organizza, tra gli altri, corsi individuali di italiano specialistico per studenti stranieri: tali corsi tendono allo sviluppo di una particolare abilità oppure della terminologia relativa ad un linguaggio settoriale o di area: italiano commerciale e per gli affari, italiano per il turismo, per la moda e per la cucina, preparazione alle certificazioni di conoscenza della lingua italiana, test d’ingresso delle università italiane e altro ancora.
